“The broader aspect is there is an unmet need for good quality housing in WA for people living with disability, and Shift has changed that.”
There is a special personal connection driving Lui as Director of Shift. When his mother was struck with an acquired disability, Lui’s father lovingly cared for her in the family home. Eventually, the day came when the responsibility became too great, and Lui’s mother was moved to high care aged care. This opened Lui’s eyes to the need for a variety of accommodation options for people that cater to more than just physical needs, but cultural and lifestyle considerations as well. Lui believes the new federal government funded SDA model has created a unique opportunity to do something radical for people living with disability – and Shift is leading the way.
As Director of Shift, Lui takes on a strategy role setting Shift’s direction in the short, medium and long term. These decisions encompass everything from the size and number of houses built, to the suburbs they’re built in, which requires a clear plan guiding identification, acquisition and cost-effective builds.
Driven, passionate and naturally curious, Lui brings to the boardroom a clear understanding of how to easily transfer learnings from successful business models. Here, his extensive experience in the for-purpose sector has taught him to never stray from the vision. Every decision is made in the best interests of Shift. If something doesn’t move the company effectively towards its goals, it’s simply not worth pursuing.
Lui’s ultimate hope is that Shift seizes the SDA opportunity to create real social gains for people living with disability by delivering fully funded, life-changing homes customised to unique needs. Shift is extremely fortunate to have him on board, where he continues to drive positive change from the top.
